Blog #4-Rough draft of artist statement for the Final Project

My Big Idea is education of “at risk” students with maximum participation from their parents and to create ways to elevate students to successful graduation from high school and be college ready.

It is apparent to me that parents or someone attempts to educate their children until age five and hand them over to teachers and school administrators to complete the process. Children in urban communities are most at risk and often fall between the cracks receiving very little education prior to kindergarten. These children start out behind and often can not catch up.

It is my plan to make two proposals for a website. It is my intent to create a site that will be:

· Self sufficient financially –Virtual Art Gallery

· Mandatory program participation from parents and school officials as a team, responsible to graduate “at risk” students successfully

· Easy transition students to college.

· This website will afford parents, teachers and students to have encouraging and educational dialog starting when a child starts school and meeting milestones each year so that each child receives the necessary guidance for success.

My visual strategy and context envisioned:

· The Virtual Art Gallery will be a world renowned place for artist, critics and collectors to conduct art business.

· This Gallery will be a showplace for any and all artists to show their work on consignment. Student art will be shown with no upfront fees, small percentage for anything sold.

· My pictures will speak about who is helping and who is being helped via this site.

· The teaching program will be based on semesters. Parents must complete the training program minimum once per semester designed with age of child, evaluation of work child produces and if there are discipline problems, etc. This curriculum will be designed by psychologist to be proactive for discovery of any and all issues.

I have been influenced by my new grandchild and I want her to graduate high school and go off to college prepared to finish successfully.

Midterm Big Idea

My Artist Statement- Big Idea is Family and Discipline.

Human interaction and relationships pertaining to family and discipline is my Big Idea. I have aspirations to make my mark in a big way in the urban community in reference to “at risk” children.

I believe there are some untapped resources and unused ideas that can be reorganized in order to redirect some groups of people, namely the “A-Team.” Who is the “A-Team”? Parents, grandparents, guardians, caregivers, school administrators and last but not least, K-12 students are on this great team, even though they all have never believed to be on the same team in the past. I have a proposal that lives in evolution at this time and it began last quarter, my first quarter back at OSU after 35 years.

My granddaughter Aviva is six months old and is my inspiration for this Big Idea. She is an “at risk” child as are many in the USA. By the time she is ready to attend school, if not sooner, I plan to implement a series of ideas that will breath new life into how “The A-Team” can work better together to bring new hope to our nation’s education process. The next generation must have hope and be disciplined enough to successfully graduate high school, attend and graduate from college without fail.

This future proposal will create continuous improvement to our countries public school system, utilize the work of artists with no discrimination for age, gender, race, or nationality engaging with the worldwide web, recycling self-empowerment to the “A-Team” for many generations to come. I continue to develop this Big Idea as I go through my student life in order to implement a successful future plan of action as a result of ongoing research.

The Secret Calculations of Dervish Z is a 3D movie by video artist and animator Vila and composer Weinstein in which mutant forms and audio detritus are fed into a vortex, reduced to digital plasma and recombined through ancient techniques known to induce ecstatic states in the viewer. Based on research revealed by the Rand Corporation, the Kabbalah and Nicola Tesla this project celebrates the promise of spontaneous evolution.

Connotation

Connotation is created when you mean something else, something that might be initially hidden. The connotative meaning of a word is based on implication, or shared emotional association with a word.

Doris Vila

Doris Vila is an artist using computer as an important part of producing her work. She has worked with art and technology in Europe, USA and Latin America for over twenty-five years. I really appreciate her use of color within the holograms. I feel a futuristic relationship forming with her work.

Here is what Doris says about using holograms:
"I make holograms and responsive arenas where stories float in space as well as over time. Through multiple viewpoints viewers look and look again, revealing words and objects in a dance of personal discovery. In the weightless story-space, we can walk through the walls between the mind and the senses. One of the key mysteries of a hologram is that its image is made of light, weightless light. The image hovers, as if the ghost of the object is caught in a window floating free of the weight of the world."
